Description
9 Whiting Street is a house from the early 19th century, constructed of white brick with a mansard roof that is slated on the front slope and plain tiled on the rear. The building has two storeys, a cellar, and attics. It features a two-window range with sash windows that have glazing bars, set in plain reveals with flat gauged arches. The entrance includes a six-panel door, which is set back in a double arched brick recess and topped with a fanlight that has ornamental glazing. To the left of the door, there is a foot-scraper in a stone surround. The rear wall has segmental-arched window surrounds with renewed windows, and there is one flat-headed dormer.
Inside, the cellar, which is lined with flint, brick, and stone, predates the upper structure. Some original joists remain, set flat. Above ground, there are no features from before the early 19th century, but the interior includes a staircase with stick balusters and round newels, along with renewed fireplaces.
