Description
This barn, located 100 metres southeast of Wamil Hall, dates from the late 16th century. It features nine bays, two aisles, and two midstreys, and is constructed from timber framing with weatherboarding. The roof is half-hipped and covered with asbestos sheets, while the midstreys have lean-to roofs that were formerly thatched. Each doorway has four boarded doors. Inside, the barn has a wind-braced clasped-purlin roof with thirteen bays, supported by principal rafters and collars. There is normal arch-bracing throughout, with bracing extending from the aisle tie-beam up to the post-head. This barn is an unusually complete example of a 16th-century structure.
