Description

Wamil Hall is a house from the late 16th century that has undergone truncations and alterations around 1900 and 1955, both due to serious fires. It was likely built for Sir Henry Warner, who died in 1617.

From the south garden front, the building is two storeys high, partly with attics. The left side features clunch stone, which was formerly rendered, with limestone dressings and a set-forward plinth made of red brick with limestone details. The parapet gables have moulded limestone copings and ball finials on plinths. To the right is a timber-framed service wing with brick nogging, consisting of two bays, and further right is a rendered extension likely added around 1900. The roofs are covered with plaintiles, including 20th-century hipped plaintiled casement dormers.

There are three axial chimneys made of red brick with square flues, featuring moulded caps and bases that may have been restored. The left-hand range includes several limestone windows with moulded mullions and labels above. To the left, there is the truncated walling of a central staircase block that has been destroyed.

On the north entrance front, there are six limestone mullioned windows from the 16th century and a central entrance doorway with a square moulded head and a label above, featuring a boarded and battened original oak door. Inside, one room has full oak wainscotting and an attractive fireplace surround, all dating to around 1900, though it may contain fragments of earlier work. The first floor features moulded beams from the 16th century.
