Description
No. 34 Southgate Street is a house that has been converted into a veterinary surgery. It was built in the mid-19th century and features white brick construction with a fully hipped slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a cellar. The front has a three-window range, all of which are sash windows with plain reveals and flat gauged arches. The windows are predominantly 16-pane, except for one 12-pane sash located above the entrance.
At a slightly later date, two-storey canted bays were added to the north and south sides of the building. Each bay has a moulded stucco cornice and a raised stucco band between the storeys. Each storey of the bays features a central 12-pane sash window flanked by two narrower 8-pane windows. The entrance is framed by a heavy stucco doorcase supported by Tuscan columns. The interior has not been inspected.
