Description
Blacklands is a 17th-century building located on Cavendish Lane. The structure incorporates elements from an earlier 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house. Notably, a wood arch over the porch is inscribed with the date "Marche 1576." The building features two storeys, attics, and a sub-basement. At both the east and west ends, there are gabled wings adorned with 19th-century ornamental bargeboards. A gabled porch wing jetties on the first storey, supported by a moulded bressumer above a Tudor arched doorway with carved spandrels. The west wing includes a two-storey, five-light bay window with Tudor arched lights. Most windows are casements with glazing bars, some also featuring Tudor arched lights. The roof is tiled and includes Tudor-style shafted chimney stacks. The kitchen wing is L-shaped, with exposed timber-framing on the west arm and a stopped gable on the south arm. It has a gabled dormer and a red brick chimney stack with three octagonal shafts. Inside, there is a 17th-century mantelpiece with Ionic pilasters that taper downwards.
