Description
No. 2 Churchgate Street is a house that was formerly a shop, dating from the early 19th century. The front is finished in white brick and slate, while the sides and rear are constructed from random flint, with some stone blocks and red brick detailing.
The building has three storeys and a cellar. Each upper storey features two windows with plain reveals and flat gauged arches; the first storey has 12-pane sash windows, while the top storey has 6-pane sash windows. A stone band is present at the sill level of the first storey. The ground storey includes an early 19th-century shop window, which has glazing bars, reeded pilasters, and a moulded sill. The entrance door consists of six sunk panels and is set within a plain brick semicircular arched doorway.
On the rear elevation, there is one window on each storey, featuring small-paned sliding sashes in red brick surrounds. The ground and first storey windows have segmental-arched heads to their frames and surrounds. The interior has not been inspected.
