Description

Medina Rajneesh is a large country house, originally known as Herringswell Manor, built between 1906 and 1907 for A.W. Ballance. It is designed in the Tudorbethan style and features two storeys with an asymmetrical form. The ground floor is constructed of red brick with limestone dressings, while the upper floor is faced with half-timbering in various patterns and roughcast infill. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and have clusters of octagonal red brick chimneys. The house has multiple gables adorned with richly carved bargeboards featuring trailing-leaf motifs and drop finials at the apex.

The ground floor windows are made of limestone with moulded mullions and metal casements, some of which retain leaded lights. The first-floor windows are similar but have wooden mullions. There are several polygonal two-storey transomed bay windows. The gabled entrance porch is open on timber posts with arched openings at the ground storey, while the upper storey is jettied and half-timbered, displaying a date-cartouche from 1907. The stone entrance doorway is arched and features a pair of multiple-panelled doors. On the south side, there is a loggia supported by classical columns, which leads to a balustraded balcony. The interior decoration is eclectic, showcasing much joinery in the 18th-century style, with some rooms featuring fittings in the Art Nouveau style.
