Large country house; a Neo Sannyas Commune. Formerly known as Herringswell Manor, 1906-7 for A.W. Ballance. In the Tudorbethan style. 2 storeys, asymmetrical in form. Ground floor walling in red brick with limestone dressings; the upper floor faced in half-timbering in various patterns with roughcast infill. Plaintiled roofs with clusters of octagonal startop chimneys of red brick. Multiple gables with bargeboards richly carved with trailing- leaf and other motifs, and with drop finials at the apex. Ground floor windows of limestone with moulded mullions, metal casements, in some instances retaining leaded lights. 1st floor windows similar with wooden mullions. A number of polygonal 2-storey transomed bay windows. Gabled entrance porch, the ground storey open on timber posts with arched openings; the upper storey is jettied and half-timbered and has the date-cartouche 1907. Stone entrance doorway, arched, with pair of multiple-panelled doors. On the south side is a loggia with classical columns supporting a balustraded balcony. The interior decoration is eclectic, with much joinery in the C18 manner; some rooms have fittings in the Art Nouveau style.
