Description
Chilton Hall is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house that has undergone significant alterations and additions over the years. The front of the building is primarily from the 18th century. It has an L-shaped layout with wings extending to the south and east, and an additional wing at the rear extending south.
The north front features five windows, which are double-hung sashes with glazing bars and panelled shutters, although two of these windows are blocked on the first storey. The west front has four windows, also double-hung sashes with glazing bars, and the ground storey windows have round heads. Some of the windows may date back to the late 17th century, as they have thick glazing bars.
A stucco porch projects from the front, featuring a 20th-century door and a carved swag above it that likely dates from the late 17th or 18th century. On the south side at the rear, there is a sundial inscribed with the date 1818. The roof is slate on the north and west fronts, while the south side and rear wing are covered with tiles.
