Description
A group of five monuments located in the Great Churchyard of Bury St Edmunds.
MONUMENT 207 is a tomb from 1635 for Edward Bourne, a gentleman, featuring a very old box tomb with a massively thick ledger. MONUMENT 210, dating from 1638, commemorates John Bourne, also a gentleman, and his wife Philip, who died in 1639. This is another very old box tomb with a thick ledger. MONUMENT 211 is an 18th-century tomb made of Ketton stone, which has been restored, with an end panel dated 1992. MONUMENT 216, from 1758, bears the initials R.S. but has no additional carving or description. Finally, MONUMENT 217, dated 1792, is for Reverend William Lincolne, who was the pastor of the Presbyterian Congregation in this town for 35 years, and his wife Rebecca, who died in 1782. This information is based on a survey of monuments in the Great Churchyard conducted around 1960 by West Suffolk County Council.
