Description
Denham End Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early 17th century and early 19th century. The building has two storeys and attics, featuring three windows. It is timber framed and rendered, with the right-hand range showing exposed studwork in the jettied first floor walling, which has traces of a pink colour wash. The roof is pantiled, and there is a red brick chimney from the late 16th or early 17th century with three attached lozenge flues.
The early 19th century features include wrought iron small-pane casements, along with a small 16th century two-light roll-moulded mullioned window and another window with diamond mullions, the latter having been restored. There is a 20th century one-storey entrance porch with a plain tiled roof. The mid 16th century jettied north range consists of two bays and has a good quality but unmoulded frame; it was added to an earlier house at the north end, which has since been demolished. Around 1600, a probable open kitchen was added at the south end, which included an axial chimney that replaced an earlier end stack and features three open fireplaces with cambered timber lintels. The roof over the jettied range, which is windbraced with clasped purlins, likely dates from around 1600. The kitchen was floored over and re-roofed in the early 19th century.
