Description
Porters is a house dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 17th and 18th centuries. The building has 1½ storeys and attics, featuring four windows. It is constructed with a timber frame and rendered exterior. The roof is hipped and thatched, with a plain-tiled gabled casement dormer and a central axial chimney made of red brick from the 17th century. The windows are small-pane casements from the 19th and 20th centuries. The entrance door, which is boarded and from the 20th century, is sheltered by a 20th-century open porch with a pantiled roof. The interior originally had an open central hall, with a storeyed service room to the left and a parlour to the right. The 17th-century alterations included the insertion of a chimney into the cross-passage and a complete re-roofing that raised the eaves level. A rear wing was added in the 18th century.
