Description

Guins is a cottage dating from around 1600, featuring one storey and attics with a two-cell end-chimney plan. The building is timber-framed and plastered, topped with a pantiled roof, most of which is glazed, though it was formerly thatched. At the rear, there is a large external gable chimney made of 17th-century red brick. The cottage has one 19th-century raking dormer with a three-light casement and modern 20th-century casements. A 20th-century pantiled lean-to extension at the front gable includes a bay window and a glazed entrance door. The original framing is largely intact, showcasing arch windbraced studding and good floor joists typical for its date, with those in the hall featuring a slight chamfer. The roof has clasped purlins, and there is a large original lintelled open fireplace. This building is included for its group value.
