Description

The Queen's Head Public House is a public house that dates from the late 17th century, with a rear wing added in the early 18th century and alterations made in the early 19th century. It features a roughcast and plastered timber frame, with roofs that are both machine tiled and pantiled. The building has a lobby entrance plan, with the original structure being one room deep and running parallel to the street.

The front block, built in the late 17th century, is two storeys tall and sits on a high brick plinth course. It has a three-window range of early 19th century two-light casements on the first floor, which are sheltered by late 19th century hoods with label stops. The ground floor has two 20th century top-hung casements, also with similar hoods. A double-leaf 20th century door is located between the windows to the right of centre and is accessed by a flight of rebuilt steps with a timber balustrade. A 20th century gabled porch is present, and the facade features applied false timber studwork from the 20th century. The gabled roof is covered with 20th century machine tiles, and there is a ridge stack above the door.

At the rear, there are one- and two-storey gabled wings. Inside, the building has a close-studded timber frame with jowled principal posts and cambered tie beams. The roof was replaced in the late 20th century, and there are chamfered bridging beams. The rear wing contains a central open fireplace that has been partly rebuilt under a depressed four-centred arch, but it retains an early 18th century brick canopy.
