Description

This is a house, dating from 1767, as indicated by a carving on a beam in the main room. It originally had a two-room plan with an end chimney. The house is one storey high with attics. It is timber-framed with a roughcast render, and has a thatched roof. There’s an original internal end chimney of red brick on the right side, and a later chimney (dating to the 19th or 20th century) on the left. Gabled dormers with small-paned windows are set into the thatched roof. Later 20th-century metal casements are also present, along with a glazed panelled entrance door and an open, lean-to porch with plaintiled roofing supported by posts. There are 19th or 20th-century pantiled lean-to extensions on both the right and left sides. Inside, the ceiling joists are chamfered and set on edge, and some of the timber framing is visible. The house is notable as a well-preserved example of a building type common in central Suffolk, dating back to the mid-16th century. It is recognised for its group value due to its representation of a historically significant building type.
