Description

Street Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, built in two closely-dated phases, with later alterations, particularly in the 19th century. The structure is timber framed and plastered, featuring colourwashed brick gable ends, with the right gable end mainly from the 17th century. The roof is a shallow pitch covered with interlocking pantiles from the 19th century. The building has two storeys and various windows, primarily 18th and 19th century casements. On the ground floor, there is a canted bay with sash windows dating from around 1900. One original cavetto mullioned window has been opened out, and several other good examples are visible internally. A mid-20th century panelled door is located to the right. The internal and gable stacks all have 19th-century shafts. The frame consists of five main bays, although the arrangement is not entirely clear. The right-hand bay is the earliest section, which was later added to with the brick gable end and stack. The left end features a two-bay hall that was enlarged by pushing out the gable end and rebuilding the stack. The central bays likely served as service rooms, with the internal stack being a later addition. The exposed framing is robust, with reversed corner bracing. The hall's bridging beam has double roll mouldings that extend down each wall post to converge on a circular boss. The hall fireplace boasts a particularly fine moulded lintel, with the mouldings curving downwards at the ends.
