Description

No. 9, Bridges is a house dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It has a timber-framed structure that is encased at the front in mid-19th century gault brick. The roof is made of concrete tiles and features a central 17th-century chimney made of red brick, with the upper section rebuilt in mid-20th century red brick. The house is two storeys high and has three windows. The mid-19th century casement windows have transoms on the ground floor and flat arches made of gauged brick. The entrance door is a five-panelled design from the mid-19th century, complete with a small oblong fanlight. Inside, there are double-ogee moulded beams in the parlour, and there is evidence of a former long-wall jetty facing the street. The roof structure includes two-tier side purlins.
