Description
This is a barn located 80 meters south-west of the White House, dating from the late 17th century. It has six bays and is constructed from timber framing with weatherboarding. The roof is made of corrugated asbestos, which was originally thatched. On the south side, there is a 17th-century gabled porch at the third bay from the west, featuring a set of four boarded barn doors; the opposing doors on the north side are missing. The barn displays heavy oak studding with prominent primary braces, and many of the timbers are reused. Each bay is divided by a heavier post on either side. The open trusses have long arch braces, most of which have been replaced by 19th-century bolted knees. The barn has a good two-tier side-purlin roof, with the lower tier butted and staggered, while the upper tier is clasped and wind-braced. The porch has a single tier of purlins with wind braces.
