Description
This stable, located 50 meters south-west of the White House, dates from the late 17th century and features seven bays. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, with some early or original plaster that includes herringbone pargetting in panels. The roof is made of corrugated asbestos, though it was originally thatched. The stable has several boarded doors and is supported by primary-braced oak studding, incorporating many reused timbers. The storey posts have distinct jowls that help bind the beams supporting a hayloft. Most of the joists were replaced in the 19th century, and some bays are missing their floors. The roof has a two-tier side purlin structure, with the lower tier being butted and staggered, while the upper tier is clasped and wind braced. At the time of the survey, the building was in poor condition.
