Description

Two houses, 100 and 102 Silver Street, were likely built in the 17th century as a single structure. They are timber-framed and roughcast, although the right-hand cell has been encased and remodelled in 20th-century plain-tiled brick. The roof is now concrete tiled, but was originally thatched. A prominent axial chimney of red brick, dating from the 17th century, has a sawtooth shaft, and a square panel at its base, which may have once displayed a date or initials. The first floor has 19th-century small-pane casement windows, while the ground floor contains 20th-century casements. Number 100 has a 20th-century glazed panelled door, and Number 102 features a 20th-century glazed entrance porch and a 6-panelled door. The interior was not inspected, but it is believed that Number 102 contains moulded 17th-century plasterwork, including cherubs, on the ceiling of a chamber.
