Description
The Old Bakery is a house that was once the parish workhouse. It dates back to the 16th century and features a two-cell range, with a 17th-century rear wing and an 18th-century addition on the left. The building is timber framed and roughcast-rendered at the front, while the rear is plastered. It has a pantiled roof, with mid-20th century concrete pantiles on the rear section. The structure has two storeys and includes 18th to 19th-century small-paned casement windows, along with a 20th-century canted shop window. The 16th-century range has a central axial stack and plain ground floor ceilings, with some exposed studding that shows reversed bracing and evidence of original windows. The 18th-century addition extends the house towards the guildhall and includes a carriageway at ground floor level in the end bay.
