Description
Guildhall Cottages are two cottages that date back to the 16th century, with an 18th-century addition on the left. No. 4 consists of the hall and parlour sections of the original 16th-century house, while No. 3 includes the service end and the later addition. The cottages are timber framed, with roughcast rendering on the front and cement render and weatherboards at the rear. They have a pantiled roof and are two stories tall. There are various casement windows, mostly old, and two boarded doors. No. 4 features two gabled dormers. The internal stack belongs to the 16th-century range, and there is a small gable stack for the later addition. The interiors have been largely modernized, with the ceiling of the parlour chamber supported by secondary upper crucks. The roof, which appears to have been of queen-post type, has been largely reconstructed. These cottages are included for their group value.
