Description
Dairy Farmhouse is a former farmhouse, now divided into two cottages, dating from the 16th century. It is timber-framed and rendered, with old plain tiles on the roof. The building has two storeys, with part of it having an attic, and follows a two-cell internal chimney form. The chimney stack features a plain rebuilt shaft made of old red brick. Throughout the property, there are 2-light and 3-light standard casement windows from the 20th century.
At the front, there is a single-storey lean-to divided into two sections. Access is only available to No. 1, which is to the right of the internal stack. This section consists of two bays and has no means of entering the roof. The ground floor is a basic single room that has been divided up. The exposed ceiling showcases heavy main cross-beams with a double roll-moulding and run-off stops, while the joists feature a single roll and scotia. The long post-heads are adorned with roughly-shaped shields that have a raised outline and quarterings, beneath which is a wide carved leaf. On the rear wall, one shield displays the year 1578 and the initial A above PS on one quarter, with AP in another below. The upper floor has plain framing, and both floors contain blocked original windows.
