Description

Mutton Hall is a farmhouse that was originally built as a manor house around 1600, with significant remodeling occurring in the early to mid 18th century. The building has two storeys and attics and was constructed in an H-plan layout, where both the service wing on the left and the parlour wing on the right originally projected forward by at least one bay before being truncated to create a flush facade in the 18th century.

The structure is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a slated roof that was once covered with plain tiles, hipped at both ends. There is an axial chimney made of 17th century red brick with a panelled shaft, and another chimney from the 18th or 19th century on the left with a plain shaft. The windows are mainly casements of three lights with transoms, dating from the 19th century, although there are some early 18th century windows at the rear with leaded lights.

The entrance is a 19th century gabled porch with a panelled door. The plain timber-framing from around 1600 includes wind-braced but purlin roofs at both ends, while the central range has a rebuilt roof from the 18th century. Inside, there are notable features such as good wainscotting, an arcaded overmantel from around 1600, and several ribbed plank doors. The interior also showcases fine joinery and considerable remodelling from the 18th century. Additionally, there is a lower 17th century service range located at the rear left.
