Description
This is a barn located 20 meters southeast of White House Farmhouse, dating from the early to mid-17th century. It is timber framed and primarily covered in weatherboarding, with some areas of tarred daub on the west side. The north gable end and roof are clad in corrugated iron. The barn consists of three bays, with the northern bay being approximately twice the length of the others.
The structure features full-height oak studding, about 80% of which is intact, along with curved braces at the angles. One tie beam retains both braces to the wall posts, while another has one brace missing. A third tie beam in the north bay may have been added later. The end half of the north bay shows evidence of diamond-mullioned windows, suggesting it was once floored over for stabling. There is a cart entrance in the center bay, which includes a brick threshing floor. The roof has one row of clasped purlins and two-way arched wind bracing, which is stepped at its junction with each principal rafter. This barn is included for its group value.
