Description

White House Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, which was restored between 1984 and 1986. The building is timber framed with mid-20th century panelled render and a colourwashed brick gable end to the left, likely from around 1700. It features a pantiled roof and stands two storeys high with an attic. The structure has a two-cell form, although a probable third cell to the left is now missing. The fenestration is scattered, with mullioned casements dating from around 1985, and the main windows have 4-centre arched heads for each light. There is a 19th-century four-panel door and two gabled dormers from around 1985. External stacks are present at each gable end, with the right stack dating from the 19th century. Internally, the full-height studding is mostly intact, featuring reverse-curved braces. There are traces of many original windows and mortices for diamond mullions in the right cell, which served as the service end. The left gable end shows no evidence of studding, suggesting that the house may have originally extended further. The floors have plain joists set flat, and there is a cambered tie beam in the cross-partition. The roof is a clasped-purlin type with incomplete wind bracing.
