Description
Bevants Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the 16th century, built in two phases. Originally it comprised three sections, with a cross-wing representing a possible earlier service cell. The house is timber-framed and has been plastered, with thatched roofs. A substantial early 17th-century chimney of red brick is a prominent feature, with a pilaster shaft on both the front and rear. Various 19th and 20th-century small-pane casement windows have been added. A 19th-century four-panelled door is located at the lobby entrance. The timber framing is largely exposed and unmoulded. Inside the cross-wing, large, unchamfered medieval floor joists on the first floor are likely to have been reused. A staircase with triangular block treads, dating from the mid-16th century or earlier, is also present.
