Description

Limberlost is a mid-17th century house located in Poy Street Green, Rattlesden. It has a three-room layout, with a lobby-entrance plan. The house is one storey high with attics. It is timber-framed and plastered, with a thatched roof featuring eyebrow dormers; one dormer is likely original, while the others are 20th century replacements, all with leaded glazing. The original axial chimney stack has been rebuilt in the 20th century using red brick. Most of the windows are 20th-century casements, although a late 17th or early 18th century casement remains in the left-hand gable. A 20th-century entrance porch fronts the building, with a boarded door. The original timber framing is complete, exhibiting primary-braced studwork and on-edge floor joists. To the right is a slightly later block of similar timber-framed construction, which may have originally served as a bakehouse or kitchen.
