Description
The Brewers Arms Public House is a public house with an early 18th century facade that conceals a core dating back to the 16th or 17th century. It features a timber-framed and plastered structure, with the left gable encased in 19th century red brick. The roof is plaintiled and has a moulded 18th century eaves cornice. There is an internal 18th or 19th century red brick chimney on the left and a rear chimney, now internal, made of late 16th or early 17th century red brick, with its shaft rebuilt in the 19th century. The building has two storeys and five windows, featuring early 18th century small-pane sashes with flush frames; several retain original sashes with thick glazing bars, and there is a painted dummy sash at the upper left. The entrance doorway, from the 18th century, consists of a pair of three-panelled doors with fielded lower panels and glazed upper panels, framed by an eared architrave, pulvinated frieze, and moulded pediment. There are two short rear wings of 16th or 17th century origin, with the left wing heavily remodelled in the 18th and 19th centuries using flint and red brick.
