Description

The Keeper's House is a Grade II listed building located on West Street in Rickinghall Inferior. This house, which was formerly a gamekeeper's lodge for West Hall, dates back to the early 19th century. It is constructed from clay lump and whitewashed brick, topped with plaintiled roofs. The building has an informal layout in a Picturesque Gothick style and consists of one storey.

Prominently, there is a canted bay that projects forward to the right of the center, featuring a pointed arched boarded door. This bay is flanked by two-light glazing bar casements with Y traceried pointed arched leaded heads and is capped with a semi-octagonal hipped roof. To the right, there is a bay where the roof slopes down to low eaves at the front. On the left, a recessed bay contains a similar Gothick window, supported by two tapering timber uprights at the front. The far left bay is built of brick and also features a Gothick window.

Both ends of the building have half-hipped roofs. The right end includes an added external stack, another Gothick window, and a small light. An axial ridge stack is located where the ridge of the forward canted bay meets the main ridge. At the rear, a cross range projects further, with a lean-to extending to the rear right. The interior has not been inspected.
