Description
High Hall is a former farmhouse, now derelict, dating from the late 16th century. It features a timber-framed structure that is roughcast-rendered, with a roof originally covered in plaintiles, though it is now partially stripped. The building has two storeys and a three-cell plan, with a cross-entry and an internal chimney stack. The stack has two rebuilt square shafts set diamond-wise on an older base. The windows are mainly Edwardian casements, primarily three-light with transoms, and there is a 20th-century entrance door.
Inside, the structure has plain studding and reversed bracing, with modernized fireplaces. The main beams are adorned with chamfer and scroll stops, and the main posts have long jowls. There are plain rectangular doorways leading to two service rooms, and a newel stair is located by the stack. The roof includes clasped purlins, principal rafters, and windbraces. There are 19th-century additions at the rear, constructed partly in brick and partly in clay lump. The house is situated on an isolated, moated site and has been unoccupied for over 20 years.
