II

House, formerly divided into tenements for the occupation of the parish poor. Late C15. Timber-framed and rendered; comb pargetting; pantiles. One storey and attics; basic 3-cell plan. One internal and 2 end chimney-stacks, all with rebuilt red brick shafts. 2 gabled dormers with plain bargeboards and 2- light single bar casement windows. 3 windows to ground floor, all different: 2 2-light and one 3-light casement type, one having transome and pintle hinges. Plain entrance door in the original cross-entry position, with a corresponding door in the rear wall. A small single-storey extension on the right in matching materials. Frame in 4 bays formerly with a 2-bay open hall. The internal chimney-stack has been inserted into the lower bay, up against the open truss, which has a cambered tie-beam and arched braces. In the soffit of the rear wallplate are diamond-mullion housings for a 5-light hall window. The main beam of the ceiling inserted into the hall is chamfered with step stops, and the joists, similarly treated, are set flat. Large plain timber lintel to the single hearth. Framing plain, with replacements; an edge-halved and bladed scarf joint in one wallplate. Rafters all covered, but no evidence for other than a rafter roof.
