Description
34 and 36 Violet Hill Road is a house from the early 19th century that has been divided into three parts, surrounding three sides of a courtyard. The central section, number 36, now serves as the Masonic Hall. The building is constructed of gault brick and has slate roofs, with the rear of number 36 featuring a corrugated-concrete roof. The main facade faces southeast and includes a three-bay Roman Doric portico on the left, which has a triglyph frieze in front of three French windows. Above, there are two sash windows with 6/6 glazing bars and gauged skewback arches. To the left, there is a three-bay block with three first-floor 6/6 sash windows, a ground floor bay window to the right, and a 19th-century door within a brick doorcase on the left. The northeast return has six bays. Inside, number 34 features a closed string stick baluster staircase, and the main rear room has a foliate plaster cornice and a ceiling rose.
