Description
The Homestead and Sunnyend Cottage is a former farmhouse that has been converted into three dwellings. It dates back to the late 16th century and consists of a three-cell range built in two phases, with a small addition likely from the 18th century to the south, known as Sunnyend Cottage. The Homestead underwent renovations and was subdivided in the 1960s.
The building is two storeys high, constructed with a timber frame and rendered exterior, topped with a thatched roof. It features mid-20th century standard casement windows that do not have glazing bars, along with two mid-20th century glazed doors. There is an internal stack present. Sunnyend Cottage has a concrete-pantiled roof, mid-20th century three-light windows with horizontal glazing bars, and a boarded door.
Inside, The Homestead has been significantly modernised, with most of the studs hidden but believed to still be intact. There is an original newel stair located behind the stack and a 16th-century straight stair with solid treads at the service end. The parlour cell has been enlarged by one bay, and the original side purlin roof remains. The interior of Sunnyend Cottage has not been examined.
