Description

The Shieling is a house dating from the late 16th century, with a mid-20th century addition on the left side. It features a timber frame with smooth render and a thatched roof, while the later addition has a pantiled roof. The building is 1½ storeys high and has a small three-cell layout. There are two mid-20th century single-paned standard casement windows. To the right, there is a mid-20th century gabled porch with a boarded door. The house has two eyebrow dormers and an internal stack with a small red brick chimney. The first floor has substantial plain joists, and some exposed studding can be seen in the left cell. There are back-to-back open fireplaces, and one tie beam is set high and supported on secondary upper crucks. The roof is intact, featuring rafters of irregular scantling.
