Description

Old Hall is a farmhouse with two main parts, dating from the early 17th century and the early 19th century, creating an L-shaped plan. The building is primarily timber framed with textured render. The rear range features substantial side walls made of English bond brickwork on the ground floor, while the rest is rendered or faced in 19th-century colourwashed brick. It has a plaintiled roof and stands two storeys high with an attic at the rear. The front has three bays, with windows that are not evenly spaced; most are sashes with glazing bars, except for a standard casement from the mid-20th century on the lower left. There is a gabled porch with pierced scalloped bargeboards and a mid-20th-century door. The rear range includes an axial stack with a 19th-century shaft at the junction with the front range, as well as a 19th-century gable stack. To the south, there are various 20th-century casements, a 19th-century six-panel fielded door, and a half-door. To the north, there is a 17th-century gabled addition and a one-storey lean-to, with the main roof continuing over the latter.

Inside, most of the structure is concealed, but the bridging beam in the main ground floor room features ornate stop-chamfers and an open fireplace. There are 18th- to early 19th-century doors. The original roof includes clasped and butt purlins with two-way arched wind-bracing. The north addition has exposed first-floor framing with heavy reverse-curved braces and a clasped purlin roof. Notably, the rear wing is built over a section of an infilled medieval moat.
