Description
This house, located about 10 meters southeast of Tudor Cottage, dates from the early 17th century and was altered in the 19th century. It features a timber frame with a plastered exterior and a thatched roof. The building has a four-bay, two-cell lobby entry plan and is one storey high with an attic. The entrance is slightly to the left of the center and includes an architraved boarded door with three glazed lights, sheltered by an open timber gabled porch that has decorative bargeboards. To the right of the entrance are flanking three-light glazing bar casements, and at the far right, there is a small leaded light, all of which have hoodboards. A central axial ridge stack is present, and the gable ends feature two and three-light part opening casements, pentice boards, and exposed plates and purlins, with a shaped bracket on the front left. At the rear, there are boarded doors flanking a small early one-bay, one-storey wing with three-light casements and a boarded door, supported by collars clasping the purlins. Inside, much of the frame is concealed, but some close studding is visible, and part of the structure has been rebuilt on the left. The interior includes stop-chamfered cross axial binding beams and joists, and above the fireplace on the right, there is a moulded stone block featuring a carved lion and coronet, likely taken from Westhorpe Hall. The roof has arched windbraces supporting the side purlins.
