Description
The service building located immediately northwest of Rookery Farmhouse dates from the late 18th century. It features a timber frame that is plastered, with some red brick infill, and has a pantiled roof. The structure is a long range of 5 to 7 bays and stands two storeys tall. It has a double offset plinth and faces the farmhouse, with three doors and three-light ovolo mullioned louvred windows—three on the ground floor and four on the first floor. An axial ridge stack is positioned towards the house, and the roof is hipped towards the road. At the rear, there are three stable doors, coach doors, and similar windows. Inside, some early timber has been reused in the frame, which includes a mid-rail. The kitchen fireplace features a massive moulded stone bressumer, which is believed to have been taken from Westhorpe Hall following its demolition around 1760. There are stairs in front of the stack, and a first-floor fireplace with a moulded mantlepiece.
