Description
The Howlett Monument is a chest tomb located about 20 metres east of the Church of St. George in Wyverstone. It dates from the 19th century and commemorates Mary Ann Howlett, who died in 1840. The tomb is constructed from ashlar stone and features a moulded base and moulded capping, which is inscribed with the names of R. Howlett, who died in 1866, and M. Howlett, who died in 1884. The sides of the tomb are fielded panelled with quadrant indents at the corners, and one long side retains its original inscription. Fluted pilasters are positioned at the angles of the tomb. Surrounding the monument is a railed enclosure, which includes finials at the corners.
