Description
The Post Mill Roundhouse, located 70 meters north-west of The Shieling, is a roundhouse from a former post mill, now used as a store. It dates back to 1820 and is constructed of red brick with narrow projecting bands of white brick at the first and second floor levels. The building features a felted conical roof with a shallow pitch and consists of three storeys, circular in plan. It has openings on four sides, three of which contain tiers of boarded window openings, while one side has boarded doors at the ground and first floors, along with a six-paned window above. Inside, the lower half of the post and its supporting trestle remain in place. The mill was demolished around 1924 and was noted as one of the tallest in the county. This roundhouse is included as a good example of its type.
