Description

Brook House is a house built in the early 19th century, with extensions and alterations made in 1928, as indicated by the date in the brickwork. It is constructed of red brick with painted dressings and features a shallow hipped roof covered in glazed pantiles. The building has three bays and two storeys, presenting a symmetrical facade. The central entrance has a step up to a four-panelled door with half pilastered jambs and a Gothic traceried semi-circular fanlight set within a round-headed architrave. A shallow Roman Doric porch complements the entrance.

On the ground floor, there are round-headed sash windows with 8:8 panes, featuring Gothic traceried heads, which are recessed and have white painted surrounds. The first floor has three 16-pane sashes, also recessed, with gauged brick flat arched heads and white painted surrounds. The building is topped with a coped parapet and has white painted quoins with internal end stacks.

To the left end and at the rear, there are early 20th-century additions, including a three-bay return with 12-pane sashes and a stepped parapet, as well as three bays at the rear featuring a central glazed door with a bracketed hood, additional sashes, and a key-blocked oculus in a water tank tower. There is a half-glazed door into the centre bay of the main block, above which is a stair window, and 16-pane segmental-headed sashes. To the rear right, there is a one-storey and attic outshut with a stack.

Inside, there is a round arch in the passage leading to a dogleg staircase with slat balusters and a moulded handrail.
