Description
Paul's Maltings, including the adjoining kiln, is an early 19th century building that was refashioned in 1866. It is a long, two-storey structure with a basement and attic, built of brick and topped with a slate gambrel roof. The building features a range of gabled dormers and a re-styled Dutch gable end facing the road, which includes rusticated brick quoin pilasters and a central doorway. Above the doorway, there are four round-headed windows on the first floor, each with keyblocks, along with similar windows in the gable. The side windows and doorway were altered around 1866 and have chamfered segmental niched heads. The adjoining malt kiln, likely built around the same time, is square in plan and has a tall pyramidal slate roof with a cap. Inside the Maltings, there is machinery for the elevators.
