37-41 Buttermarket is a building from the 18th century or early 19th century, featuring a plastered front that likely covers an earlier timber-framed structure. It has two storeys and attics, with a five-window range that includes three three-light windows without glazing bars and two double-hung casements with glazing bars. The ground floor contains 20th-century shops. There is a wing that extends to the north along St Lawrence Street, which has a two-window range with double-hung sashes that also have glazing bars. The roofs are tiled and feature a mansard style, with three flat-headed dormers. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 21 to 41 (odd) and Nos 18 to 30 (even).
