Description
Moyes Butchers is a shop that was formerly a house, dating from around 1600. It features a timber frame that has been cased in brick, with an asbestos tile roof. The building has a two-cell lobby entry plan and an additional shop entrance on the right. It stands two storeys tall. The central door consists of six fielded panels, with the upper four raised, and is framed by a moulded architrave with a simple frieze and a shallow canopy. To the left of the door is a two-pane window in a moulded frame, set in an altered opening. On the right, the shop front includes a 20th-century door situated between plate glass windows, with a fascia board above. There is a brick band at the first floor level and a moulded eaves band. The first floor has two 20th-century two-light windows in moulded frames, with a central picture of a bull. The building has an axial stack made of 19th-century brickwork.
Inside, the ground floor shop has been tiled over. The left-hand room features a massive chamfered cross beam and part of a cornice. Stairs are located behind the stack, leading to a clasped purlin roof with windbraces, which is largely intact on the left side but altered on the right. The shaft of the stack in the roof space is from the 19th century.
