Description
Abbey Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 18th century, built from rubble stone sourced from the original Butley Abbey, with ashlar quoins and dressings. It features a plain tile roof and was originally designed in an 'L' shape, with 20th-century additions. The house has an east-west range and north-south wings, standing two storeys tall with an attic.
The east elevation displays a gable end with four windows, which are sashes set in recessed frames with glazing bars, topped by brick segmental arches. The north-south wing contains two first-floor windows, also sashes in recessed frames with glazing bars. On the ground floor, there is a modern canted bay made of red brick with sashes. The entrance features a modern doorway with pilasters and a moulded hood supported by decorated brackets, leading to a six-panel raised and fielded door.
The south elevation has three windows, again sashes in recessed frames with brick segmental arches. There is a modern full-height casement double door with glazing bars and a radial fanlight above, set within a semi-circular brick arch. The roof includes two gabled dormers and one modern central dormer, while gault brick stacks are present.
