Description
The Church of St John the Baptist is a parish church with a core dating back to the 12th century, featuring a 14th-century tower and a 13th-century chancel and south porch. The church underwent significant restoration in 1868. The square tower is constructed from flint with ashlar quoins, while the nave and chancel are stuccoed over flint. The nave has a thatched roof, and the chancel is covered with plain tiles. The south doorway is adorned with one order of colonettes and an arch featuring zigzag moulding. The south porch retains part of a 13th-century former hood-mould with stiff-leaf crockets. The tower is topped with embattlemented flushwork and has decorated two-light louvered bell openings on all sides. Inside, there is a 15th-century octagonal font with four lions on the stem and four lions and four angels on the bowl, as well as a 15th-century screen with one light division and ogee arches.
