Description
Numbers 1 and 2 Dock Farmhouse is a pair of houses that were originally a farmhouse, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. They are constructed of red Flemish bond brick and topped with a plain tile roof. The two-storey buildings have a symmetrical arrangement on the road front, with each house featuring two bays.
The right-hand cottage has a central ground floor doorway with a panelled door surround, which includes gadrooning on the sides and lintel, and roundels in the top corners. The door itself is a six-panel design, with the lower two panels flush and the upper four raised and fielded. Flanking this doorway are three-light casement windows with cambered heads and wooden sills at ground floor level, and there are two similar windows on the first floor.
The left-hand cottage was originally similar but now has a central doorway, which had a cambered head, that has been blocked. Both cottages feature gable chimney stacks at either end and one central axial stack. The right gable end has two 20th-century two-light casement windows on the ground floor and one window in the gable. A later outshut on the right has ramped walling at the top, a three-light 20th-century casement window on the left, and a half-glazed doorway on the right. The left end has a projecting 20th-century chimney stack in the centre, with a two-light 20th-century casement window on the ground floor to the right and a half-glazed doorway to the left, along with a single-light gable window on the left and an outshut on the right.
At the rear, there is a projecting gabled wing on the left, which is a later addition. This wing has a four-light casement window on its left flank and a two-light window to its right. Above these, there is a two-light first floor window and a two-light mezzanine window with moulded glazing bars and Y-tracery. To the left of this gabled wing is a late 19th-century outshut at ground floor level, featuring one three-light, one two-light, and two single-light casement windows.
Inside, the ground floor has encased ceiling beams.
