Description
The Lifeboat Disaster Monument, located approximately eighty-five metres northeast of the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Aldeburgh, was erected in 1898 as a memorial to the lifeboat tragedy. This monument is made of marble and is designed to resemble a pile of carved marble rocks. On the west side, it features a life buoy, coils of rope, and other sea-faring items, along with a supporting patee cross. The east side bears an inscription that commemorates the events of 7 December 1898, when seven members of the Aldeburgh Lifeboat lost their lives during a rescue attempt.
