Description

Thorpeness Mill is a post windmill dating from the early 19th century. It was relocated from Mill Lane in Aldringham to its current site in 1922-1923 and converted from a corn mill to a water pump. The mill was restored to working order in 1977. It features a timber-framed and weatherboarded body set on a square base with pantiles. The mill has four patent sails and a fantail. The internal machinery is intact, including a reciprocating drive that operates the pump rod, which runs through the center of the main post to a pump located in the well below.
