Description
The Whinlands is a house built between 1910 and 1914 by Frederick Forbes Glennie as part of the Thorpeness village development for Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie. The structure is likely made of concrete block with applied timber framing on a brick plinth, topped with a roof of pantiles. The gable descends to the ground floor on the left side. The house has two storeys and features a two-window range of three-light wooden casements. The right half of the ground floor is recessed to create a verandah, which includes a part-glazed door and porch, along with a three-light casement. There is a similar casement on the far left, with additional casements on the sides. A brick ridge stack is located at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. This house is a notable example of some of the first buildings in this resort village. Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie, the owner of the Thorpeness Estate, conceived and designed the entire village, commissioning the architects involved.
