Description

An early 18th-century pair of cottages was remodelled in 1976-8. The building is two storeys high with a mansard roof, featuring plain tiles above and pantiles below. It is constructed of colour-washed brick with a plain band at the first-floor level and a modern modillion eaves cornice. Gauged flat brick arches top the three-light casement windows. The former shopfront of number 53 has been replaced with a shop window designed to appear period. Number 53 has a new half-glazed door. The former doorway of number 55 has been blocked and replaced with a new entrance on the return.
